GoHort Webpage

Description

The GoHort webpage is a repository for a wide range of horticulture-related resources, including information on career pathways, training and study options, scholarships, and job opportunities. The website is directed at those interested in entering into the industry or upskilling their current capabilities, as well as employers who are looking at options to train their staff. An important element of GoHort is their Online Taster Course offering, which allows for users to attain a Learning Pathways digital badge. These badges are awarded when a participant has completed three related online courses, of around 2 hours each. Attaining these digital badges acts as evidence of the awardee’s knowledge of and commitment to the horticulture industry.

Justification for excellence as assessed against framework

This artefact aligns to R9: Skills recognition and credentials, specifically through its Learning Pathways badging system. In the primary industries there are few examples of successfully implemented skills recognition/badging initiatives, so this stands out as exemplary amongst the current landscape. While the product is relatively new, it is too early to say whether it does meet the criteria for excellence, though it is worth acknowledging its innovation and potential for future excellence.

Some elements of excellence have been identified within the product. When comparing the product to the Participation section of the framework, although it is not currently used internationally, learners may in the future be able to achieve internationally recognised credentials or industry certifications through the badging scheme. In terms of Access, the product meets the criteria of credentials being seamlessly flexible to adjust to different learner circumstances, as users may select specific Learning Pathways that are best suited to them.
