No images? Click here Greetings from the Food & Fibre CoVE team & welcome to our first newsletter. Update from the Board I’m delighted to announce that the Board is now fully up and running, and we have had two meetings already. The CoVE consortium is now registered as an Incorporated Society known as The Food and Fibre CoVE Society Incorporated.
Chrissie Hape appointed to Board A very warm welcome to our last member to the Board, Chrissie Hape, who has been appointed by the iwi. Chrissie is of Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngai Tahu, and Moriori descent and the Kaiwhakahaere Matua (Chief Executive) of Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc. We have also moved into our permanent office facilities. These include a large break-out room, open plan office space for up to six desks, a separate kitchen, and a meeting room that can double as a space for small functions. I was recently invited to speak to the APEC 21 Services and the Food System workshop about Education and Training in the Food Value Chain – a great opportunity to introduce the CoVE to a larger audience. For regular updates please check our website, our Facebook and Linkedin page. If you have any questions, ideas, or things you want to share, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Ngā mihi Chrissie has over 35 years’ experience working in the government and community sectors and six years with Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi. Her career has predominantly focused on improving health, education, social and wellbeing outcomes for our families and communities through the strengthening of partnerships between government, community and Iwi.Chrissie was also interim Chief Executive for Takitimu Seafoods for the initial eight months after the purchase by the Kahungunu Assets Holding Company of which Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc is the 100% shareholder. The role was to oversee the transition of staff and processes from the previous company and implement the compliance requirements and company structure. Chrissie is a Director for Health HB (Hawke’s Bay Primary Health Organisation) and the Deputy Chair of the NZIST EIT Board. A message from Board Chair, Organisations and businesses in the food and fibre sector are grappling with staff shortages this harvest because of Covid. Economic loss is inevitable for some industries. This unexpected challenge serves to emphasise how critical it is to attract and grow talented people in our sector. Attracting and growing people is one of the three workstreams for the CoVE. The other two workstreams focus on extending vocational excellence across the sector; and identifying successful innovations in workplace learning. Several project briefs are now being worked into business cases to deliver across these workstreams. As a small organisation our CoVE needs to support projects that address priority issues and that will generate quick results for industries. To this end, we have formed an Incorporated Society that is accountable to our consortium members. Our society is aligned with strategic priorities in the food and fibre sector strategy “Fit for a Better World”. We work to the mantra, ‘learner-focused – industry-led – government-enabled’. The first CoVE projects now underway To achieve quick results, we have launched three foundation projects that underpin the CoVE work.
The other seven key programmes in the two-year plan are currently being reviewed. They all result from consolidating the many similar original ideas into groupings that relate to each other. We will approach the originators regarding collaboration opportunities and to find a lead collaborator.
