Dynamic Modular Learning in the Workplace

Originator/Sponsor: Food and Fibre CoVE

Portfolio Managers: Doug Neilson

Status: Under development

Lead Agency/Service Provider: George Angus Consulting

Introduction/Background:

It is assumed that vocational education and training will increasingly take place in the workplace, particularly within the food and fibre industries, where learning will be constrained by the capability and capacity of the employer (and/or their staffs) to effectively tutor, delivering both theoretical and practical instruction (with an emphasis on the latter), the seasonal impact on operations, and the range and relevance of available work activities in relation to the intended learning outcomes.

Training:

  • Identification of training needs and how trainees might be targeted
  • Overview of existing informal and formal training programmes.
  • Identified barriers and constraints.

Objectives:

The primary objective is to define the key characteristics of a vocational education and training (VET) delivery and assessment model for workplace-based learning. This model will be based on the disaggregation of qualifications and credentials on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) into learning outcomes elements of learning outcomes, which can then be reassembled into an optimal sequence of theoretical and practical modules tailored to each unique combination of provider, employer, and learner.

A secondary objective, within the constraints of limited industry engagement, is to determine the levels and type of training and support that employers will require to effectively deliver and assess learning in the workplace.
