Plumbers, Drainlayers and Gasfitters Association Exam Support

Description

Through this initiative, extra support is provided to those wanting to sit the exam to become a registered plumber, drainlayer, or gasfitter, but may have learning difficulties. While the exam is typically undertaken by individuals on a computer in a testing centre, those with a medical, physical or learning disability that would significantly impair their ability to undertake the exam can access aids such as hardcopy resources, reader/writer assistance, a separate room, or 30 minutes extra time to complete the exam.

Justification for excellence as assessed against framework

This artefact aligns to R7: Under-served learners. This initiative accounts for the variety of different learners that may be attempting to gain registration, for example those with low numeracy or literacy skills, dyslexia, anxiety, or other neurodiverse conditions. Such barriers to participation have been acknowledged and addressed by the Association, who recognise that learners can be prevented from becoming qualified as these difficulties can inhibit them when attempting the exam process. This method provides an alternative means through which to gain registration into the industry. In terms of Systems, the assessment environment is clearly responsive to these under-served learner segments, providing learning materials and resources which are tailored to meet their intersectional needs.
